The Municipality of Santo André delivered on Wednesday (29) the second field hospital in the municipality, located at the Bruno José Daniel Stadium. With about 1,400 m², the site houses 120 beds, 10 of which are for ICU, and will be able to serve low, medium and high complexity patients with suspected or confirmed Covid-19 .

As a result, the initiative is part of an extensive planning carried out by the City since the beginning of the pandemic, which led the city to prepare in advance and structure the health network to better serve the population. With the inauguration of the space, the municipality now has 300 beds in the municipal health system exclusively for the treatment of patients with suspected or confirmed cases of infection with the new Coronavirus.
First, the first Santo André field hospital was installed in the Pedro Dell’Antonia Sports Complex and opened on April 15. The site has 180 beds, 20 of which are in the ICU.
“With management and planning, we are managing to stay ahead of the evolution of Covid-19 in Santo André. With this second field hospital ready, we can unburden the Municipal Hospital Center and guarantee service to our people, when the occupancy rate of the Pedro Dell’Antonia Complex starts to saturate ”, commented Mayor Paulo Serra, who visited the facilities at the Stadium Bruno Daniel this Wednesday.

The field hospital at the Bruno José Daniel Stadium, for example, has its own laboratory, which makes the service much faster, since the test results will be ready in just 30 minutes. The site also has portable and digital x-ray equipment and four nursing stations with isolation beds.
Some support areas are operating in the stadium’s own structures, such as a warehouse, pharmacy, bathrooms and changing rooms for employees, administration, cafeteria and meeting room.
Meanwhile, the field hospital at the Bruno José Daniel Stadium will start to be used as soon as the field hospital at the Pedro Dell’Antonia Complex reaches 70% occupancy of its 180 beds. Currently the place has about 30% of the occupation.

Therefore, the Municipality of Santo André is also installing a third field hospital, at the Federal University of ABC (UFABC). There will be 100 new beds, scheduled to open in May. Adding all deliveries, the municipality will total 400 new beds.
In addition, the Health Department stresses that the UPAs and Health Units remain the reference for the initial care of coronavirus cases. Field hospitals serve as a rearguard for the public health service and patients arrive exclusively by ambulance.
