Management Governing the FUABC

Within the tripartite management that governs the FUABC, the instituting prefectures – Santo André, São Bernardo and São Caetano – take turns managing the entity every two years. Dr. Adriana Berringer Stephan was nominated by Mayor José Auricchio Júnior and unanimously elected on December 12, during an extraordinary meeting of the Board of Trustees – the highest resolution body of the ABC Foundation. Appointed by São Bernardo, the previous president , Dr. Luiz Mário Pereira de Souza Gomes, assumed the vice-presidency in this new administration, which corresponds to the 2020-2021 term. There was no change in the General Secretariat, which is still under the command of José Antônio Acemel Romero, appointed by Santo André.

General surgeon and endoscopist, Dr. Adriana will have the challenge of running one of the largest institutions in the country, with a budget of R $ 2.4 billion approved for 2020. Today the ABC Foundation is the manager of 15 hospitals and 4 AMEs (Ambulatórios Médicos de Specialties), in addition to the Centro Universitário Saúde ABC and the Central de Convênios, which manages a series of management contracts and agreements.

According to the new president, one of her missions will be to build a new governance standard. “There is still a lot to be done. Investment in the professionalization of management, with the adoption of technology and information tools; construction of protocols and standardization of conducts; training of labor; and a wide and intense relationship with the Faculty of Medicine of ABC ”, emphasized Dr. Adriana, who was moved to remember her trajectory at FMABC, today Centro Universitário Saúde ABC. “Exactly 32 years ago I arrived at this campus for the first time, with a joy unrestrained by a great dream come true ” .

In the Biggest Ranking

Characterized as a private legal entity, qualified as a Social Health Organization, FUABC ended 2019 with a total of 21,995 direct employees working in Santo André, São Bernardo, São Caetano, Mauá, Guarulhos, Itatiba, Itapevi, São Paulo (Capital) and Mogi das Cruzes, in addition to Praia Grande, Santos and Guarujá.

Released in 2019, the most recent edition of the “Valor 1000” ranking, of the Valor Econômico newspaper, listed the 1,000 largest companies in the country and ranked Fundação do ABC in 282 ° place. By filtering the ranking by categories, the ABC institution is the 8th largest in the country in its area of ​​operation, that of ‘Medical Services’.

Also last year, Revista Exame published the 46th special edition “MELHORES & MAIORES”, which recognizes the success of companies that operate the most important sectors of the national economy. Among the 1,000 listed companies, the ABC Foundation ranks 331st.

MORE THAN 50 YEARS DEDICATED TO HEALTH

Philanthropic entity of social assistance, health and education, the ABC Foundation was created in 1967, established as a non-profit foundation by the municipalities of Santo André, São Bernardo and São Caetano. It is declared a Public Utility institution at the federal, state and in the city of Santo André. Over the years, the FUABC has become a strategic partner of city governments and the State Government in health management and assistance.

ABC’s first maintained unit, the ABC Medical School was founded in 1969 and is among the best educational institutions in the country, with 10 undergraduate courses: Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Nutrition, Psychology , Environmental Health Management, Hospital Management Technology and Radiology Technology.

In this context, the new president stated that she will have a special look at Medicina ABC. “I have been representing São Caetano and a mayor who is a former student of FMABC. We have a different affection, special care for the Faculty, which is now a University Center. We are going to join forces so that the school continues to grow and develop, and to help us, with its expertise, in the constant improvement of care processes, in favor of the population that uses health equipment ”.
